Preserve & Protect The owners of the Elizabeth Webbing plant in Central Falls leveraged state and federal tax credits to support the rehabilitation of a ca. 1910 mill for 85 residential apartments. If Historic Places, Archaeology, and Heritage are WHAT we preserve, the Preserve & Protect section provides information about HOW to do it. Financial Assistance like Grants, Loans, and Tax Credits provide tools for owners, stewards, and advocates for historic properties to carry out planning and preservation work; another tool for preserving historic properties are Preservation Easements. As Rhode Island's State agency for historic preservation, the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission (RIHPHC) works closely with municipalities and non-profits to support local historic preservation programs in Rhode Island's 39 cities and towns. RIHPHC is responsible for regulatory review of publicly funded and/or licensed projects that impact historic properties. We prepare historic preservation plans for Federal and State partners, as well as for the agency itself. And our professional staff is available to provide expert advice and resources to guide preservation projects.
